The first queer prom will be here soon, and it will be the perfect opportunity for everyone to celebrate themselves and all the others who are like them. Join us on this unforgettable evening full of love and appreciation for who we are.
About the event
We are here to say good riddance to the gender stereotypes which are associated with proms. This night will be our night. Wear whatever you want to wear, ask anyone who you want to ask to go to the prom together and most importantly; be who you want to be.
On the 27th of October at 20:30 the doors will open at Theater De Nieuwe Vorst where we will be able to celebrate and dance until 02:00.
So, if you are looking for a spectacular night where you can dance like no one is watching or if you just want to praise you for being you. Then don’t hesitate to come and visit this very queer prom.
FAQ
What is Queer Prom?
Queer Prom is an inclusive gala for queer individuals and allies, aiming to break existing patterns of normativity around sexuality and gender identity within the context of galas and proms. Like any pride event, Queer Prom is both a celebration and a protest: It is a celebration of queerness where participants can feel safe and be themselves. By creating a distinctly inclusive space for queer youth, we also contribute to the discussion about the lack of environments actively including queer individuals.
Traditional galas often fall back on heteronormative views, for example in terms of clothing and company. With Queer Prom, we want to organize a gala where everyone can be themselves and not have to modify their behavior for fear of discrimination, violence or bullying. As a queer person, it is possible to feel alone in your own identity. By hosting events like this, we create the opportunity to meet others and show that they are not alone.
Is there an age restriction?
Yes, this is an event for people aged 18 years and older. Your date of birth will be checked at the entrance.
I’m not queer, am I also welcome?
Yes, everyone is welcome as long as you want to celebrate queerness and protest anti-inclusive attitudes with us. We will not tolerate bullying, exclusion, or judging other guests.
Where and when does Queer Prom take place?
The first edition of Queer Prom will take place on October 27th in Theater de Nieuwe Vorst. Doors open at 20.30 and close (with everyone outside) at 02.00. You can enter whenever you want, however, at 21.00 we will officially open the event with a brief opening talk.
What is the dress code?
In short: Queer Prom!
Queer Prom is a prom-themed pride event. Dress up how you would have wanted to dress at your own high school prom, or how you would dress if it were organized today. Alternatively, you can just wear whatever makes you feel the most handsome and/or beautiful, comfortable and fabulous!
What if I don’t want to photographed?
If you don’t want to be photographed, e.g., if you’re not openly out yet, please tell us by sending an email to info@queerpromtilburg.nl, sending us a DM or telling us at the start of the event. We’ll do our best to remove any pictures you’re recognizable in.
